What is an open syllable?

Ying and yang ☯️ - that's how I like to think of open and closed syllables.

They are opposites but work together beautifully to make many words in the English language.

In an open syllable there is NOT a consonant AFTER the vowel making the vowel have a long sound.

examples: hi, me, we, no

multisyllabic examples: logo, hero. yoyo
