About me
Hi, I’m Ashley, an Orton Gillingham tutor.
At Simple Literacy I help eliminate parent and student frustrations by taking the guesswork out of literacy.
As an educator by trade and a lifelong learner in practice, I am passionate about learning – especially helping others learn! Throughout my 15+ years of teaching experience, I have taught learners of all ages, K - adults. Currently, I tutor students K - 6.Â
Throughout my career, I have witnessed and experienced two consistent themes with early literacy instruction: children struggling to read and write (either with or without a specific disability) AND teachers working tirelessly to meet all students’ needs. As I continue to learn and teach literacy, my passion and belief in the Orton Gillingham science of reading approach has grown monumentally. I am a firm believer in the power of the Orton Gillingham approach to help young learners reach their full potential and I am driven to support parents and educators support all student needs through early literacy instruction backed by the science of reading.Â
On a personal note, I am a mother of two young children (so even beyond teaching, I understand the patience required to help little ones!) and reside with my family in Georgia. I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, my master’s degree from the University of South Florida, my Elementary Education Specialist degree from the University of West Georgia and I am an Associate member of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE).
Together we can provide early literacy instruction that follows the Orton Gillingham science of reading proven methods! Â
